All you folks touting their arrival might want to do a little homework. Most guys I know that are flying for foreign carriers are dying to get back to the states. These carriers have few if any work rules, often don't honor seniority, and pay much less than their US counterparts. I worked for a regional and understand the angst with the downward spiral going on, but allowing foreign carriers to operate domestically will be a disaster for the US airline industry, and the overall pay and quality of life for pilots based here.
Finally someone speaking the TRUTH. Yeah the hard numbers of salary look much better at face value, but they are only paying that because they really need the pilots at the moment. Do you know what they pay their aircraft cleaners at QATAR? Significantly less than what one would make at a subcontractor here, and that is because there are thousands of Nepali citizens willing to do it for meager pay.
The work rules at some of these carriers is ****. Ask anyone who works at Cathay if the work rules are good... they will fire you for looking at someone funny and there isn't crap you can do about it.
