I think the excuse/reason for logging the time is because their insurance requires two pilots. And yes, to answer a previous question, the FO pay is low 20s, and doesn't go up like at the regionals after the first year. I get the impression most captains are in it for the long haul, so I wouldn't come in looking for that quick upgrade.
