Here's the thing, there's almost always a business man or two that have several global sat phones, one in their pocket one in a briefcase. Unless they killed everyone enroute, someone would make a call. As this story unfolds however; I think most people should hope and pray it crashed.
They can't call if they are already dead. If the plane was depressurised when there was only 1 pilot on the flight deck 238 people couldn't break back in before they suffocated. Maybe that is why it climbed? I don't think we will ever know the full story. No CVR will have any conversation or any struggle recorded.
Every scenario is a bad one. Unfortunately crashing maybe the best one. But I expect there will be security repercussions, more tacking of aircraft and more security for the flight crew.
