I'm on relay rides and people rent my truck daily. It more than pays for my insurance every month. Relay rides is different than side car though. With Relay Rides you don't drive the people they drive themselves. I see a lot of people doing Lyft though and I'm also a member in case someone has my truck and I need a ride. Either that or I use Zip car for $8/hr. Either way what really makes the difference, as far as receiving business, is the location that you are at. I'm on west coast and as you may or may not know, the west coast is filled with people who wall, bike, or hitch rides. East coast could depend on what city your in. Hope that helps.
I live outside SF and i know its a pretty popular thing these days but you are right in that many prefer to walk/public trans whenever they can. thanks for the reply
