Now I'm sure you're happy where you are and that's great but that doesn't mean you can't be happy at TSA either.
The problem with advice on this website is that most of it comes from people who have only seen this industry as it has been in the last 10 years. Arguably the worst state it has EVER been in.
If you blindly "always say" just go somewhere where you can get stuck without actually analyzing the situation as it is now, not 5 years ago, you are possibly setting yourself up to fail.
Like it or not, TPIC is still an important piece of the hiring pie. Yes, some FOs are being hired, but they are very few and very far between. Most of them also have a great connection inside. And most of THOSE are going to places like B6, not Delta. With the amount of hiring due to take place here for the next 10 years. Upgrading at a place like Mesa vs being an FO for 6-8 years at Eagle or XJT, Skywest etc. could mean YEARS of seniority on the top end at a legacy.
The difference of pay from a "crappy" regional to "a place you can get stuck at" probably isn't significant enough to not have a chance at years of extra time at the top end of a legacy. As a bonus, if you live in a "crappy regional" base it's almost a no-brainer.
No matter what regional you're at you're going to hate it if the industry stagnates and you get stuck. Might as well give yourself a chance to move on quickly while it at least looks like the the industry is heading in a positive direction.
People used to "always say" that smoking won't kill you or that the world was flat.
Nope, I always said it, because is the reality. I've seen people going for the "fast upgrade", they didn't got it and are unhappy. Like btzz, meanwhile I'm not in the best position, but I can say I live my life and I'm happy. I do care about upgrade, but if I leave for a "fast upgrade place" it would mean 2 more years. At the end I might upgrade in the 6th year in the industry either way. I got hired at Envoy in 2010, in 2011 Envoy was the place to go and we recruited about 600 guys/gals. Now is PSA and MESA the place to go, but it might not be tomorrow. Would someone be happy in PSA and MESA if they get stuck? Probably not with their current contracts.
2nd, I commute so having better priority on AA/USAir than a non-wholly owned its a big advantage.
I'm stuck right here and even we don't have a future I'm not unhappy or crying about how I cannot upgrade. BTW my wife only have a crappy part time job and I bought a house. So, I don't have a sugar mama and have bills to pay.
