No state income tax in Texas. Plus you can get a 500000 dollar house for 200000. Housing and land are still cheap in Texas. My parent live in San Antonio and that place is crawling with entertainment also Austin is right up the road about an hour. Schools are not bad down there either. On a side note my parents sold their house in the Washington D.C area for over 2 million and purchased even a larger house on a larger lot for 750,000, not a bad deal.
