Ugly truth: passenger comfort, convenience, on time performance... the entire customer experience DOES NOT MATTER. Regarding airline profitability, if you make it cheap, they will come.
The general public is like a stupid teenage girl playing the dating game; treat them like dirt and they'll vow "never again", but it's only a valid vow until they come back next time.
