United was one of the first and called it CLR - Command Leadership Resources (or something similar). From what I remember the airline had basically put together the outline for the course, but hadn't made a decision about going forward.

Along came a DC-8-61 accident in KPDX, flight 173 in Dec 1978, where the aircraft literally ran out of fuel - a classic CRM study.

A friend of mine wrote the study scenarios for the course.

I remember going through the 3 day course in Denver - 1979 or 1980 or slightly later. Very intense but enlightening. I've always considered it the best training in my career at United.
