Innovative is a reach. Ask that senior 300 or 320 Captain based in EWR watching people junior to them taking seat that should rightfully be theirs if seniority was honored. The FAA said that the fleets could not be combined as common aircraft. Hence separate fleets, 756 and 76T. If there had been a system wide bid these guys would have been allowed to exercise their seniority to fly the 756 or the 76T and not restricted from them.
The good and bad about seniority is that it should always prevail and neither the company or ALPA should be allowed to trump seniority for any reason.
The 756 and 76T (T for transition...as in transitioning to 756) WILL be one fleet. Until that day, we have BAT. BAT is the closest thing to one fleet they could think of. This isn't rocket science and it's not a precedent for upgrading out of seniority...don't know where you got that. ALL BAT Captains were already Captains within the 756/76T fleet.
