I'd say don't be a girl and shoot the Garand but it sounds like you have your mind made up on the M1A lol. I shoot all three in High Power the Garand and M1A I have are just stock guns my AR is way decked out though. As a new shooter get used gear and a regular M1A. As your skills increase then you can replace the barrel with something more high end. Practice practice practice then see where you can do better typically serious High Power shooters reload their own custom loads, that's what I do but be prepared to spend lots of money on that as it's its own hobby.
