If you want to live in the west the obvious answer is to apply to UAL and then AMR. Nothing is harder on a family then a long commute. Failing that bite the bullet and move east. Lots of areas with good schools. Family time is far more important then schools or living out west.

Youll sacrifice a lot of QOL and pay if you have a tough commute. If you are dead set in living out west and working for jetblue then think about living in the LGB area and be prepared for a long time on reserve before holding a regular schedule. It would probably take a year before you could get based in LGB.
