Sailingfun and flyby, thanks for the input. QOL is important. It seems like a 4 hour direct flight to JFK or LGB wouldn't be too bad of a commute, though.

A four hour flight to work sucks. Imagine driving 30 minutes to the airport to get to the gate 1 hour prior to departure. Also you need to give yourself more than one flight. So with the above you have wasted 5.5 hours. Chances are you will arrive several hours before your trip starts so you have now spent almost 8 hours of your day and you haven't even started your trip. Now imagine flying 6 hours out to the west coast that day or 4 hours down the Carribean. Keep it simple, move to a base. Commuting sucks...period.
