And they know it.

The large group of older pilots, especially the over-60's, will vote for anything that includes a pay raise -- especially a substantial pay raise ("substantial" by US standards, but "substandard" compared to the rest of the industry) -- without the least regard as to the collateral damage inflicted upon the rest of their younger fellow pilots.

Witness the MOU.

Did anybody even read past the page with the "new and improved" pay rates in the glossy brochure?

Everyone is now complaining about not getting profit sharing. Then why in the hell did you vote to give it up in the first place?

Everybody. On three. Ready? 1-2-3...

"Because I needed the money."

And that was a 75% vote in favor. They only need 51% to get the scope concessions they want.

If Parker and Kirby can somehow get a JCBA TA out to the rank-and-file pilots that's loaded with scope giveaways; but includes even a modest pay raise, it will be the equivalent of a two-inch tap-in putt or an empty-net goal.

You have a very valid point regarding this pilot group and the old selling out the young... strong track record of this.

HOWEVER, I have spoken directly with my rep and they said that the BOD's goal is for this to NOT go to a membership vote because they know that the membership will approve it even with scope giveaways. They intend to keep it at the BOD level so that it doesn't go to the membership, because it doesn't have to, according to how the MOU is written.

The next few weeks will be interesting. Let's hope that people think about all this and stop the slippery slope of scope erosion.
