Perfect storm for labor. You don't want the company so weak they can't keep the lights on - but all your wishes are granted for fear of a stoppage - nor so strong that whatever you do cannot damage them either. I leave it to you to decide the current situation.
Yes they are trying to buy scope now but how are you going to walk around when you your legs are cut off at the knee caps.
But while your eyes are focused on this issue don't be surprised if they don't make an end around for the international flying outsourcing.
The company has money, I'll agree with that. But you and I differ on dictate and violate. How about they have a contract and UNDER THE LAW you agree to abide by it? I mean, really, isn't that what the royal "WE" did?
They didn't BUY scope because "WE" already gave it to them. How many RJ's do we have right now, anyway? A lot...right? Too many? I AGREE. So, what I THINK you're trying to say is don't give them anymore "wide body" RJ's. Good luck with that because someone eventually will do it and we'll eventually have to compete.
Welcome to deregulation.
Look, would I like MORE pay and benefits....SURE! WHO WOULD'NT?
Would I like to have only OUR pilots fly "American branded" metal? YOU BET!
But that is ALSO in the past....so is deregulation. So is seniority (LOS). So is....well, you fill in the blanks. When you guys start thinking that the future is US then it's time to maybe start thinking about some SOP's for the union....ALL UNIONS. I'm not holding my breath for that!
But in reality I'm fully prepared to accept the CONSEQUENCES OF OUR ACTIONS and when the CBA becomes amendable in 2019 we'll just have to see what happens then.
For ONE example, my guess is that if the West pilots don't get their way (and I do not for ONE MINUTE think they will because the law already said so) is that the APA will have its hands full keeping their ranks in line for the next contract.
See you on the flight line.
