Depends on the base. I was hired in March and on the line by June. A good chunk of us went to IAD straight out of training, and those who stayed there had a line within a month or two, and a pretty good one at that (United side has way better schedules). I was awarded Phoenix for September and next month would be the first month that I'd be able to feasibly hold a line if I wanted.
That being said, someone hired today would be facing different circumstances and possibly a longer wait to get out west. Earlier this year PHX grew with the addition of a few CRJ 900s as well as FOs upgrading, which caused a lot of movement on the PHX FO side of things. Unless PHX gets more flying, someone hired today wouldn't make it out west as fast as I did.
