FAR 61.55 is your friend. You need ground training specific to type, the 3 take-offs and landing and engine-out take-off, go and landing. That is what you need to do BEFORE carrying passengers, so it can be done. No chicken, no egg. The SIC type is required ONLY to fly outside the US, otherwise just log the training items in the FAR.

An engine-out takeoff is NOT required.
You may want to check the operator's insurance requirements as well. Some policies accept in-aircraft 61.55 experience and others require simulator training.
