Somebody suggested that the award might not be final, it came out a day early and there were anomalies with it. Being as senior as I was out of the reserves for DFW, I got only one of the 8 days off I bid for, vs. all 11 days I bid for (and got) this month.
Did the days off you selected violate any of the following rules?
1) Must work at least 3 reserve days at a time
2) Must have at least 2 days off at a time between blocks of days on
3) No more than 6 consecutive reserve days at a time
4) Must be no conflict with above rules looking backwards into previous month
Also, look at the people above you on the list--did any of them request any of those 8 days off? Did any of them have legalities requiring a schedule with any of those 8 days off?
Even something as simple as picking days off on a reserve bid can be complicated, even if you're the #1 reserve in base.
The best way to do it is to bid a set of specific days off you want (complying with the above rules), select the "all or nothing, else start next bid group" options, then bid another group of specific days off you want, select "all or nothing, else start next bid group" again and so on and so forth, until you've selected all sets of all days off you would want in bid groups descending from most wanted to least wanted. Then put one last bid in with just the days off you want without selecting "else start next bid group"/"all or nothing."
This way, PBS will simply cycle through all of the possible sets of days off you want, and if it can't give you any of those sets, it'll give you as many of those days off as it can.
Even as a lineholder, I always put in a few sets of 11 days off with all or nothing/else start next bid group commands, so if under some crazy circumstance I ended up on reserve, I know exactly what days off I'd end up with.
