There are many regional pilots who believe that staying at a regional is a better way to the majors than going to a part 135 operator. You are correct; there really aren't that many options for those of us trying to go to the majors.
By next year the 3 legacies, FedEx, and SWA will probably be hiring a combined monthly total of 400 or more. I'm sure most regional guys will have shots at jobs in the next few years. The way they are aligning with regionals (Endeavor and Envoy) though, you may be limited on getting a job with the one you want depending upon where you work.
