I have absolutely no desire to hold a line ever in my career, I just want days off and to fly 30 to 40 hrs a month max.
You would definitely fly less on Short Call than Long Call or a Block. If you really don't want to fly ever, bid Short Call on a widebody. I'm on the 767 in PHL and there are some S Reserves with 0:00 for the month and the month is almost over. I hear the 330 guys fly even less. The trick is to look at the pairings and find out when most of the trips leave and then bid opposite to that.

For example, on the 320, if most of the trips leave mid-to late afternoon and have a few legs or a flight out to the west coast, an early morning RAP would leave you illegal for a lot of those trips. Of course, your mileage may vary. I'm a commuter and prefer to fly more on reserve (or bid Long Call).
