TD, in general I agree with your statement, but in the case of Cape Air you happen to be wrong.
Maybe its because its such a small company, only 600 employees. Maybe its because they have an exceptional management who are more interested in running a very good operation than a very large operation. I don't know. But they are genuinely more interested in people than things.
Perhaps most importantly, the execs apparently have all checked thier egos at the door.
My wife is the New England region training manager for thier station personel. She had a meeting with the COO or some big shot like that a few weeks ago. In the middle of thier meeting he got bumped out of
his office by a subordinate who needed the space for some reason. He asked my wife if she didn't mind taking thier meeting to the kitchen. He said something to the effect of "Yeah, you know how it is around here, if someone needs to use my office I just move down the hall."
Can you imagine that happening at AMR, UAL, NW, Republic, Comair, Mesa, or even a 'friendly' place like Southwest or JetBlue?
The Capeies are a unique bunch. If anyone in aviation is going to do the right thing, and for the right reason, you can bet it will be them.
