You can get called by SWA with minimal connections, but you still have to get by their interview...talk to 22 guys, hire three...I wouldn't exactly call that easy either. Lucky maybe, but not easy.
Delta has received 8000 applications since January...they hire what 30-40/month? Not really good odds.
I just don't like to hear indiscriminate talk about a "pilot shortage"....that kind of talk is dangerous, some kid probably read that post and filled out his ERAU loan application tonight

Five years from now he'll be a wet commercial w/300 hours, ready and willing to help JO undercut YOUR job.
yeah i agree with this. its not any easier to get the job, but times have changed from when delta was where retired airforce pilots went to finish off their careers. and no there is not a pilot shortage for the majors. i will say there is one for the regionals though. i mean when there is a 5000 dollar signon bonus for someone with a current crj rating, who do you think that is really for?? it is for the guy alredy working at a regional since that is pretty much the only place you can get one, aside from buying one yourself.. so the thing is the regionals are just poaching from other regionals. hopefully pretty soon they will be all poached out and actually have to provide a good qol and pay to give guys incintive to come and work. my flight school went from 900 students when i was instructing, to about 500 now a'days. i really think that the airline business has lost a lot of its appeal.. anyone who was thinking about being a pilot, and then saw the nwa guys pickiting saying the took a 43 percent pay cut, probably thought twice about it.
