It's official. The VP of Flight Ops just announced that effective immediately SWA pilot applicants will not be required to have a 737 type rating for the interview and WILL NOT be required to obtain one prior to beginning class. All new SWA pilots will receive their 737 type rating during their AQP training program as new hires.
VP cited increased pilot demand and the fact that they were excluding highly qualified candidates by having that requirement.
