When trying to pick up open time, I'm often denied for pairings that are too close together, but I guess the company doesn't have a problem with simply combining them when it suits their needs.
While not fun, it's legal. They don't go out of their way to change pairing codes for one person unless they need to; however doing that prevents your fdp from ending once the first trip ends.
