That's right.

The detailed boarding totals and Skynet data will tell you capacity/booked/SAs. That is the most accurate information you can get and what you should use for the best planning. The seat map is still a useful tool to get an idea of what's going on, but you have to realize what it's actually telling you. It reflects specific assigned/unassigned seats, not the number of unbooked seats. Booked passengers with unassigned seats are usually those who simply haven't checked in yet. So, as they check in and you get closer to departure time, the seat map gets increasingly more accurate.
