Because under the old rules, the above scenario only on an 8 hour overnight where you MIGHT get 4 hours was better? As well as the potential to be scheduled right up to the limit of 16 hours duty afterwards?
Although it DEFINITELY takes discipline, but getting a good (enough) rest period in on a 10 hour overnight is doable. If you're not behind the door for an "8 hour sleep opportunity", then it's ALL ON YOU to tell the company.
