I'm certainly not opposed to the idea. And on a clear day, I'd always tell the folks about points of interest, especially during tourist season to/from Alaska.
What I have a problem with is a guy who, on his own as a junior F/O, introduces himself to the 1st class cabin as Capt. XXXX even if he was one in the Navy. It always amazed me that someone could reach that rank and be oblivious to the fact that a ship or aircraft only has ONE Capt. and it wasn't him.
The other thing that bugs me is guys like one pilot I heard on a flight from PDX to SEA did (no joke!) 30 minutes on the Mt. St. Helens eruption. He talked continuously from "ding ding" going up to "ding ding" going down.
That was way too much.
