So....I did some sim work at DEN recently for a gov contractor. I checked my hotel rate at checkout. It was pretty pricy so I inquired with the front desk. I was told that I was seeing the government rate and that the gov rate always includes breakfast. Hmmmm, that breakfast is costing tax payers about $35 per day at this hotel, in addition to the room charge. I will already be receiving the daily gov per diem rate which is twice what any civilian airline pays. Man we are so screwed!
"Government rate" is a nebulous term; it means something different at each hotel or chain. Often the government rate is higher than other rates. Government rate does not mean free breakfast; government per diem and daily expenses are talied separately, but the hotel may or may not elect to include a breakfast.
