I have flown with numerous XJ CA junior to that who do, many commute out of MSP. It has nothing to do with your "situation", a 15yr XJ guy can hold a line. We've had multiple vacancy bids where he could go to NY if he desired.

How is it that everything bad in life is out of someone's control? If I were living in MSP, I'd GLADLY take reserve over commuting, and enjoy my time at home over the sure schedule and higher pay. However, I wouldn't be blaming someone else for the choice that I made to do so. Grow up, you're not a victim.
