In short, UAL had their own school out in Tracy CA. If I remember, DC-3's, Convairs, 247's. No I'm not that old. My dad was UAL too, but not an Ace. Did not speak well of them.

They would pay you to get a private, multi, instrument, and then give you a job. That was a pilot shortage.
