You have a common misconception about RG. He is not a CEO in the natural sense of the job. Delta puts him in his positions merely to "check the block" to fullfil US corporate law. He makes none of his own decisions for the companies he's shut down. He simply acts on orders from the real boss. I agree with your observations about Gumm. He's a puppet.
My comments stem from comments he made to the Comair employees about Comair's "future" when he, along with John Bendoraitis and CFO Dan Dixon insisted reducing Comair's fleet would put the company in a better position going forward. I told them it wouldn't work and provided my reasoning. Unfortunately, I was proven right.
