It is absolutely insane that we live in a society where someone can borrow $100,000 at a ~4% interest rate with zero credit check--to get a BA, MA, and PhD in philosophy or Art History, but if you want to go do flight training--something that directly leads to a job--nooooooooooo, that's not allowed, because aviation didn't exist in ancient Rome, or when Oxford and Cambridge and the Sorbonne were churning out scholarly gentlemen in the Renaissance.
Well put, though barriers to enter the piloting profession aren't necessarily a bad thing for those in it and truly seeking it.
