The regionals are by far the easiest route to get a little 121 experience to "check the box" on future apps. With the pic time in the book already, he's not trapped waiting for the magical upgrade that may not happen for a decade.
Just have realistic expectations. It's a regional. You will be mistreated and be paid next to nothing. It's doable if you live in base and DO NOT GET COMFORTABLE. Get in, get a type, get some time and get out at the first opportunity. Job fairs and 121 experience are the key to landing a spot at a reputable carrier.
