Most people really do care most about the quality of the person. I think the fact is most pilots are white males simply because the majority of people choosing this career path are white males. There is no great conspiracy. HR people normally work in an office and don't give a damn about the pilots or who they know. If given the task, it wouldn't be hard for them to look at resumes, and objectively pick the most qualified applicants. Everyone has to Earn respect, it cannot be given by any preference program, written or otherwise.
Please dont put words into my mouth. At no point in either of my post did I accuse anyone of being a "racist bastard" or anything similar. In fact, in my first post I said that is was NOT racism and that there was NOT any conspiracy. In addition, I think I clearly point out that I think its understandable why some white males are bitter against affirmative action.
My main point was that people often get angry at minorities or AA because they feel like they took their job but the reality is that far more less qualified white males take jobs because of inside connections than are given through AA. So acknowledge that most of the less qualified applicants who get hired are NOT minority. The problem is although you say you're not happy with people who get in through daddy the reality is that you frequently dont know who they are. When they sit in the seat next to you it is
assumed that they are just as qualified as you are. Nobody comes and post threads that say "Daddy's boys and airline jobs". Instead people vent on that very small percentage of minorities who got helped by AA.
As for HR departments hiring objectively that would work on Utopia but here on Earth is wouldnt be as easy. Its still very subjective. In addition, every flight hour is not equal. 2000 hrs flying a small multiengine airplane around Texas doesnt equal 2000 hrs flying jumbo jets worldwide which isnt the same as 2000 hours doing military pilot instruction and on and on...So once again there is some human subjectively saying this guy is better than that one. Unfortunately, any time humans are involved (regardless of race) there will be bias, favoritism, and under the table deals. In our society those deals tend to favor the white male. If this country were 80% black then it would favor the black male and we would need AA for anyone not black...I'm sure you would still disagree with it though...
