I certainly see the need to lobby with all that is going on with the foreign carriers and I give to the PAC myself however I did have one problem with the way it was shoved down our throats in Indoc. It basically came across as you all better give or we'll know who didn't and we'll talk to you about it. One person did not elect to give any money as their significant other already does and they were pulled aside and questioned as to why. That left a bad impression of intimidation for those who came from non union operators. It shouldn't have felt like that.
I was a mil leave return and sat through the presentation by ALPA towards the end of BI. I agree with your description... The membership chair (female with accent) was way over the top and pretty much scared new hires into joining... Not the right approach IMO. I bet many, if not all, cancel PAC auto contributions after the first year due to situations like BI presentations... Need either a new chair or new approach rather than arm twisting.
