Have a drink and chill. This industry will only make complete sense in impending bankruptcy, merger, or furlough. It's cyclical. When everything seems to go well, the other shoe will drop.
Nobody is excited about taking flying from other carriers. I know quite a few folks at republic that now have to deal with this mess. When that happened for endeavor (then pinnacle) many went through the first few stages of loss. Some denied it, some accepted and ran, some carried hope, some just rolled with the punches. When DL bought us I went from debating a move to buying DL stock and holding on. So far, it's a good decision. What 5 years, 10 years, 20 years looks like? Who knows.
FWIW, Those RP pilots I know are the same who asked me years ago, when things went into the dumps, if I wanted to come to republic and if so, put my name on the referral for their bonus. The regional industry only guarantees instability. The majors just ride the cyclical waves, with the hope of avoiding a wipeout. I started a decade ago, everyone was hiring, street CA's at many shops... 3 years later you were lucky to get a call for an FO interview while on furlough. This isn't something pilots control. Not a single person legally able to post on this board can influence a decision on airframes, and nobody it the front office of the aircraft has a say in what company will put its name behind the Cockpit Windows. We all make our choices of employment and place significant trust in the mgmt groups to keep the ship afloat. When all fails, Noah ain't bringing an arc to save any of us. We all must make decisions for our livelihood. I don't see republic going anywhere, and truly believe this BK will clear off the debt from previous mgmt attempts at outside growth (F9 purchase, 50 seat and trop flying) but in this case, all signals point to losing all ties with DL.
