Well from managements perspective, a pay raise amounts to a permanent fix to a temporary problem. Bonuses can be given and taken away almost at will. That is why AAG would prefer to offer bonuses rather than raising FO pay by $10 /hour across the board.
And what is wrong with having a little business perspective? Why lock in a rate that is unsustainable if a black swan event happens? Sure, a higher permanent rate is good. But I'll take it from the bonus checkbook just the same.
