I get it, you guys are heartless and blame the FO for taking the job. Personally, I know that people are trying to work hard so that they can eventually have a good career and their kids will not have to sacrifice as much as they did.
I feel bad that the MEC is playing a game of Russian Roulette with the money that was being given to the FOs. I hope that it will work out for them, but I am not so sure. I would say that there is an 80% chance that it will backfire and the MEC will end up shooting themselves in the head.
The FO's will all be leaving soon for better jobs, and I just hope that I am senior enough now to prevent being downgraded. If we can not hire, and FO's start leaving at a higher rate than captains, we will have downgrades.
There have always been FOs that have trouble making ends meet. Most of us have commuted to reserve and slept in the crew rooms, we know how to make a can of tuna and some ramen last 3 days and we all know the FOs that qualify for food stamps. If this guy is an FO at PSA then he knew how it was going to be before he came here, just like we all did. If he was really that concerned about braces for his daughter he could try to get hired at endeavor where he would make nearly as much as a 1st year FO as he will as a reserve captain at PSA. He is making the choice to put his career progression ahead of his daughters braces. Also he is buying his daughter braces, he's not just saying "here's a mouth guard honey that will fix you for a few months and then in June we"ll take a look and see if you still really need braces" which is exactly what management just tried to do. The difference is management actually has the money to fix the problems here, they just don't want to.
