Many thanks for the responses, apologies if I kicked a major can of worms and for vague questions. I'm really at the fairly initial stages of even thinking about this, so any advice or factors that affected your decisions are useful to me.
I guess of particular interest would be how different airlines are dealing with the shortage. I'm not opposed to being a flying workhorse, I am afraid of taking a job and then a couple weeks or months later I'm looking again because the airline had to downsize or shutter due to financial issues.
