I flew with a Capt that refused an extension, we were on different rotations so it wasn't an issue for me. Replacement was found and we continued on. I flew with the same Capt a few months later and the only CPO call he got was one apologizing for not being able to give him reroute pay for the additional overnight. I question whether or not the intimation calls are as rampant as the Internet would lead me to believe.
The calls are SOP. If you see that as intimidation fine. If you see it as an after actions report fine. I have refused to extend 2 times, both times I got a call. They were professional and explored the circumstances for what happened. Is there a potential to Monday morning quarterback the situation? Yes. Do I care? No. I made the decisions at the time, in the condition I was in, with the information I had available, end of story. Did one chief come off different than the other? Yes, I chalked it up to personality and responded with several "yes sir"(s). They have a job to do also, and how they do that job is their decision. My opinion is that it was a non-event but I see how some could be offended. The bottom line as always is be safe. They will tell you that also.

I got paid and I got rest. Mission accomplished.
