Flight to EWR yesterday.
Go outside to the normal spot the limo/van picks us up. It's a big lot; has busses for employee parking, too.
Except....it's blocked-off. No vehicles. A bunch of big white tents are set up. There's a portable generator running.
What the....? Not many people around....must be over. I wonder what this (annoyance) was, and where I am supposed to get picked-up.
There are long picnic tables in the tents, and guys are tearing it down....including gas or charcoal-fueled grills. Generator running power to the tents; some large delivery trucks are being readied to be loaded with all this gear.
I flag a guy walking by. "Hey, what was this? And do you know where we get picked up?"
He didn't know where pick-up was moved, but he had the other answer.
"It's Earth Day....you missed it!"
As I muttered choice phrases about the hassle of finding my ride to the hotel, I wondered:
How exactly did any of this activity REDUCE the carbon footprint?
Oh....that's what I thought.
