I had 550/35 when I applied... the other 2 guys that got offered had around 400/45 and should be in the 400/50-60 range by now. The 3 of us that got hired all had interviews elsewhere (Piedmont, ASA for me)... each of us talked to people that have been working there from 6 months to 5 years and based our decisions to take the jobs on the following:

1. as many complaints and unhappy pilots that you'll hear, you will hear a lot of guys that are satisfied and dare I even say happy? (watch how many flames that last sentence will get on here lol) -- seems to be on a case-by-case basis. 2 of us were single and 1 was married -- his wife is very understanding of what it will take
2. relatively fast upgrade, especially with the Q400s coming in.
3. many base choices in small cities/towns -- I refuse to live in a city that frequently pops up in rap songs. I hate FL traffic or just any traffic in general, I hate the heat in FL, I hate feeling like I should be concealing a firearm on me at all times to keep the crackhead east orlando hobos away from my window
4. I've squawked 7700/7600 flying out of a USAF base more times than any of you guys combined will squawk that in your life... bring on the MEL!
5. We all got the Saab 340 -- no 1900s -- I don't think any of us would have accepted the 1900.
6. We all realized a regional job isn't quite "living the dream." If you went to a pilot factory that keeps you enrolled by motivating you with promises of money and glory... you'll be disappointed. Just like in any real profession, you've got to pay your dues (not to say you don't have a choice with that but I assume you don't want to sit at a regional forever?). Doctors, lawyers, professors, etc... they put in their time, efforts, and money in most cases. I think a lot of guys are thinking it's an easy way out with aviation but they can't be any farther from the truth. I'm prepared to fight in the trenches hand-to-hand for the next 10 years... if it turns out better, I'm all for it.

They were concerned that my multi engine time was low... at the time they advertised 50. I think it's up to 80 now for reasons that I do not know. However, the quality of your training will show in the sim... we had to fly a 737. I've seen 400 hour pilots that are 10x better than 1500 hour pilots... sitting passively in an aircraft and not giving a hoot doesn't build your skills, just your time. Be instrument proficient... spend time in an FTD or sim shooting approaches and holds if you haven't done one in a while. PM me if you need specifics on any of this.

Sweet man, glad you're here at colgan. Get ready for a fight! Be sure to put lots of study time in for the SAAB and it wouldn't hurt to do some leg press exercises for the V1 cuts in the sim. No wait I'll take that back, just don't forget about the trim...
