i am looking into Colgan possibly in the real near future as well as Eagle but I am VERY qol of life driven and my wife and I are closing on a house just 40 miles from MHT so obviously getting MHT would be a big motivator for me. If I interview at Colgan and am offered a position will they tell me my equipment right away because if I am offered the 1900 then MHT is out and that would make my decision a little more easy since I would not be able to get MHT
since they dont even have the 1900 there

From what I hear you do not know your base until the last week of school so I would have to accept the offer (if even given) with the possibility of getting TYR or some other obscure base and commute which is where Eagle has its advantages because I could pick BOS which is 49 miles from my new house but then be on reserve forever.

life is too short to be based in an obscure base and be away from my family half the year..been there, done that

You would find out your base during sim class, but don't worry about the first base assignment. You should be able to get your first pick within a couple of months.

its only 30-45 minutes compared to the unknown of boston traffic commuting. 6am is not a big deal...i come from the military so the day is already half over by 6am

Sounds like an easy transition then from the military then There were 7 that interviewed and 3 of us were offered. The highest timed guy had 2000/300 but I think he didn't pass the written (they've changed the questions lately and they seemed a bit tough). 3 out of 8 actually didn't pass the written... remaining 4 went to the sim and 3 of us made it out of that... my sim buddy that had something around 350/200 didn't make it. I had 550/35 when I applied... the other 2 guys that got offered had around 400/45 and should be in the 400/50-60 range by now. The 3 of us that got hired all had interviews elsewhere (Piedmont, ASA for me)... each of us talked to people that have been working there from 6 months to 5 years and based our decisions to take the jobs on the following:

1. as many complaints and unhappy pilots that you'll hear, you will hear a lot of guys that are satisfied and dare I even say happy? (watch how many flames that last sentence will get on here lol) -- seems to be on a case-by-case basis. 2 of us were single and 1 was married -- his wife is very understanding of what it will take
2. relatively fast upgrade, especially with the Q400s coming in.
3. many base choices in small cities/towns -- I refuse to live in a city that frequently pops up in rap songs. I hate FL traffic or just any traffic in general, I hate the heat in FL, I hate feeling like I should be concealing a firearm on me at all times to keep the crackhead east orlando hobos away from my window
4. I've squawked 7700/7600 flying out of a USAF base more times than any of you guys combined will squawk that in your life... bring on the MEL!
5. We all got the Saab 340 -- no 1900s -- I don't think any of us would have accepted the 1900.
6. We all realized a regional job isn't quite "living the dream." If you went to a pilot factory that keeps you enrolled by motivating you with promises of money and glory... you'll be disappointed. Just like in any real profession, you've got to pay your dues (not to say you don't have a choice with that but I assume you don't want to sit at a regional forever?). Doctors, lawyers, professors, etc... they put in their time, efforts, and money in most cases. I think a lot of guys are thinking it's an easy way out with aviation but they can't be any farther from the truth. I'm prepared to fight in the trenches hand-to-hand for the next 10 years... if it turns out better, I'm all for it.

They were concerned that my multi engine time was low... at the time they advertised 50. I think it's up to 80 now for reasons that I do not know. However, the quality of your training will show in the sim... we had to fly a 737. I've seen 400 hour pilots that are 10x better than 1500 hour pilots... sitting passively in an aircraft and not giving a hoot doesn't build your skills, just your time. Be instrument proficient... spend time in an FTD or sim shooting approaches and holds if you haven't done one in a while. PM me if you need specifics on any of this.

Sweet man, glad you're here at colgan. Get ready for a fight! Be sure to put lots of study time in for the SAAB and it wouldn't hurt to do some leg press exercises for the V1 cuts in the sim. No wait I'll take that back, just don't forget about the trim...
