I believe, whole whole-heartedly, that the reason the flow is just smoke and mirrors for everyone not super senior is because everyone within the top 50% of any regional seniority list will get hired outside of a flow somewhere worth being within 5 years. So why sacrifice seniority, qol, and pic time to jump ship now when unless a market crash, or airline crash, or another unknown would stop you from going anyways. Enjoy the qol why you have it and put the apps out for better things.. But don't jump ship for the relatively same thing with less seniority now.
Back in the late 1980s, a coworker's husband considered making a lateral move from Jetstream International to Britt. At the time Jetstream International was a Piedmont Commuter and Britt was a Continental Express carrier.

I recommended he stay put. At the time, majors were hiring and I told him they might question the lateral move and want to know if he felt he was about to be fired. He was commuting and would have to commute to a Britt domicile so that wasn't a valid response. I'm not sure where they are now.

I don't know if this is the case now but multiple lateral moves in a short period might raise similar questions. Leaving a carrier where you were in the top half of a seniority list could raise some unwanted attention and curiosity.
