So, the heart of the question is what is too long of a drive to base? We will live in PA. 2-2+30 from NYC, 1 HR from PHL and 1+30 from BWI. Is the extra 1hr drive to NYC and through NYC traffic (both ways) worth it?
I drive 2:15 to base right now. Depends on how much you like driving. I don't mind the drive to work at all but it isn't in NYC traffic. Biggest negative is it basically takes away your ability to bid day turns or pick up extra flying very short notice. Reserve in NYC is an unwritten rule of 3 hours to report during normal weather and traffic.
