Sorry, please be careful here. Short call is considered duty. That's why at the end of your short call you have to have rest. So, yes, it is duty time.

And yes, at the end of the short call window, there really isn't much they can do to you. And, if you are international, after a short time, you really can't do the longer international trips, duty is too long.

It really depends on your fleet and who you talk to at the crew desk if they will release you at the end of your window, maybe make an earlier commuter flight home, or give you another short call the next day.
