As of today, it's a fact upgrade times are still under 2.5 years and the company is still running upgrade classes. A 2.5 year upgrade is still good for someone with zero prior 121 time.
Sure the 4 that just upgraded are at 2.5 years. We hired a crap ton of people since then. I'm at just shy of 2 years and based on the 100+ pilots between me and most junior recent upgrade, I'm looking at 2-3 more years, based on the recent history of upgrades. Is 5 years bad? Maybe if the rest of the industry is shorter and you're ready. Upgrade time is going to quickly rise above 2.5 years real soon. Please stop selling what you know to be true today but patently false tomorrow.
