I think everyone forgets about the process leading up to a strike. Everyone saying we will never be allowed to go on strike forgets that all the other checkpoints, including a strike, could occur.

While I'm not an expert:

1. As we move through mediation towards the "impasse" and 30 day cooling off period the union could go to the membership for a strike vote.

2. After the cooling off period (30 days, I believe) there are a couple more checkpoints before being released to "self help" (strike). Once a strike and strike date and time are declared, the POTUS has to declare a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) in order to stop the strike.

So, while a real strike may never occur the uncertainty associated with a strike (including among all Delta Pax) will occur and result in some issues with our investors and analysts that will put pressure on the company.

If I've made any errors in my summation please feel free to correct it. This is mostly from memory in the lead up to C2K (I was still on probation but remember it well).
