Bigger is better in my opinion, but whatever you can pack a 4 day trip worth of stuff in. If you are commuting, you could easily see a 3-day backed up to a 2-day, so need 5 days worth of packing.

2, 2-inch binders will hold all your charts. Some find it easier to deal with a 2-inch for the enroutes and then 3, 1-inch for the airports.
