Ground Instructor certs are meaningless in the professional flying world. The only practical use for them that I have ever seen was to allow non-pilots or pre-CFI's to teach ground schools. If you have a CFI cert, don't ever let it lapse...you never know when it might come in handy. Besides, I always learn something from those refresher courses.
