It's not just Delta, it can be any airline. I've had new RJ guys to senior mainline CA who didn't say a word to me until half way though a 4-5 hrs flight (it's rare but it happens). Personally, it doesn't bother me and I don't really care, I usually introduce myself to both the CA and FO before even asking the CA if I can get a ride.
That's when you say "Hey Dick!" Done it before
"Oh your name isn't Dick? I guess you should have introduced yourself"
